In light of my recent adventures fixing some of the tech in my house (and those daily rolling your eyes moments that happen with tech) I decided to create my own list of top five grievances with tech in general. If anything, this blog is a break for you and I to sit back, relax, and look at how frustrated and silly we are when tech goes crazy on us.
Now all of these examples are personal experiences and will be a top list of some of the most annoying things that have happened to me during my use and testing of tech recently. To be fair, I recall some of my Apple and Microsoft experiences so I won’t get any flak from my editor. I do have to admit though both devices have given me their fair share of annoyances. Let’s get right into this top five list of my tech problems:
#5 Slow Going:
This happens on many devices and is probably the one thing almost everyone has run into when it comes to technology. Since the introduction of the internet and computers one computer is usually slower than the rest and problems always happen at the worst times. Many different factors may be the problem ranging from internet speed, driver speed, and just plain working speed. I think we have all experienced those times when everything moves in slow motion. Very annoying.
Not always sure why it happens and probably wins the most-random-of-times-award, but freezing happens on both Apple and Microsoft platforms. You’re sitting there playing Temple Run on your phone and then BAM! All of a sudden he isn’t running and your screen stops. Now for you Apple people it was common to see the screen go black and go back to the app screen pretty quick. Windows just goes back to the start screen when told or sometimes automatically. Never-the-less it’s super annoying. Usually it happens when your device gets too hot or there are too many programs trying to run at the same time. At times it might give you a scare thinking something seriously went wrong on your computer or phone. Really not a big deal but still, processors are so powerful now and it really shouldn’t happen…
#3 The Button Fail:
Don’t you just hate those times when you press the button and get no response or a slow response? I have to admit I have had this happen to capacitive buttons more times than physical buttons which both my phone and Surface tablet have. The one on my Surface hasn’t been operating correctly and I’m currently working on getting it fixed. My phone has been great with its button, (just saying). There are those times when the physical buttons don’t receive something and just make you frustrated and confused. My old iPad use to do weird stuff when I would press the home button by registering the wrong amount of clicks or none at all. Then there are those on screen presses that sometimes don’t work making me feel stupid as I tap the screen multiple times.
These happen at the worst and most random times and usually when gaming. Annoying little quirks in the system that surprise you and turn your fun into not-very-happy-at-all mad. Glitches can sometimes be super helpful when gaming when they lead to hilarious scenes or help your game character. Not so funny when I’m trying to watch something on YouTube…
#1 Texts Not Sending Or Calls Not Received:
This is the top offender and I have to say it really gets on your nerves. Here’s the scenario. You send a text to your friend and you wait for a response. Now being the distracted people we are, we just wait and wait for a reply and when we don’t get it we wonder why our friend is such a jerk. When you finally check your phone there is a ‘Failed to Send’ message. It now becomes apparent that YOU are the jerk for not responding. You can try to blame it on the phone but they may not believe you! Either way it can be a lose/lose situation, it’s the worst.
And that concludes this top five list of my personal tech failure experiences. Then again it could be just another first world problem. Life is pretty good if the hardest thing that happens to you all day is having a text not go through. Try to not take your tech too seriously people! It’s built by imperfect people in an imperfect world so will be imperfect.
What is the most annoying or funny tech fails you have experienced?
