Being a huge tech guy it’s almost natural to indulge myself in the age old battle PC versus Mac. Since I’m a tech loving teenager the common misconception I always run into is that I love Mac’s and think PC’s are old clunkers unable to keep up with coolness, status and unsurpassed ability of all things Apple. Yes. I do own an iPad mini and I love it but when it comes to computers I’m solely PC. Now wait a minute, you may ask, how can you like Apple without Mac and enjoy PC’s?? Well think of me as Two-Face. I have two sides that control me and those sides can change with the flip of a coin. Why like PC’s? Well like almost everything I have good reasons:
Of all the great reasons to love a PC the number one reason is the ability to get a computer almost identical to the Mac a whole lot cheaper. PC computers can range anywhere from $ to $$$$$ it all depends on how you build it. Mac computers start at $1000 with the cheapest Mac Air. This is The Best Buy with Mike so I’m always trying to find the best deal and personally paying a $1000 for “pedigree” is not worth my time.
I like creativity and color. Many of the things I own are colorful and loud, my new computer is as well. The ability to own a computer that is the color I want and functions the way I want and need is what I’m interested in. Plus, I’m not stuck with a silver computer which almost everybody I know owns.
The computer I bought, HP Pavilion 15t-e000 Notebook PC, has an Intel i5 processor just like the $1000 dollar Mac. It’s got a bigger screen, better speakers, an optical drive, 6GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive, and it only cost me $579 dollars. With the addition of security and Word, my total: $680 (with coupon) is still $320 cheaper than that Mac Air. Yes, there are differences on the Mac, but are they worth $320 or even more?
Yea sure PC’s aren’t perfect but is there such a thing as THE perfect computer? No. Everybody has their own preference when it comes to computers. Don’t get me wrong Mac’s are solid computers but to me they’re not worth the price and the OS has never intrigued me as much as Windows. And yes, I do like Windows 8, so it’s just another plus.
The bottom line of this post is not to bash Mac’s and say PC’s are the best, but to open Windows into the world of what I call ‘Hype’. Apple is amazing at creating hype and marketing their products but in the end is the price really equal to what you get? I’m always looking for the best deals on tech and sometimes the most popular item looks great but is a masked money trap.
Editor’s Note: I’m a mac. Eva’s Note: Well, it was bound to happen. This is my second official disagreement with Mike. (Our first was about Pinterest and you can read about it HERE.) Anyway…you don’t have to be stuck with a silver Mac – there are all sorts of fabulous skins that you can put on them to customize. See. I have a picture to prove it. Does HP sell a Pavilion designed to look like the Tardis? I doubt it! 🙂
