Saving Your Cents….Literally

For almost two years now, my mom and I have been saving our change.  All of our change.  We just throw the coins that we get into the bottom of our purses and empty them out every week or so.  You would be surprised at how much money you can save just by doing this!  My grandparents got a coin jar for me that counts up the money as you put it in the jar.  It will hold about $100 in change and it takes us four or five months to save up that much.  When it gets full Mom and I go out for the afternoon.  We get pedicures and usually have lunch or dinner out at a restaurant.  It’s so much fun!

$90.46 in the jar and 5:21 left on my Pomodoro for U.S. Literature…

Do you save your change?  Are you saving for something special or just for something fun like us?  Do you have any tips or tricks on how to save money?

be centsible,

Eva

Good for you! I also collect my change, we actually saved enough to pay for most of our living room furniture through change.

That must have felt great!  Maybe we should consider saving our change for something that will last a little longer than a pedicure… :-)

I’ve kept a coin jar for years.  It’s nice to have some spare change around or to splurge on something nice when you finally end up rolling it.

Does your bank or credit union have one of those change machines?  Ours does, and as members, we do not have to pay anything to use it.  You just pour in the change and it counts it up for you.  You take the receipt to the counter and they give you the money or you can deposit it directly into your account.  The machines in grocery stores and such charge a percentage of the money so we never use them.  It’s so nice not to have to take the time to roll it up!

My dad did this and my sister and I got to roll the coins into the wrappers and put them in our bank accounts! Great idea…thanks for the reminder!
