2015 has been a rough year. And no, that isn’t a typo. I didn’t mean to say 2014. 2014 was a year filled with a lot of changes which were difficult but overall was a pretty good year.
2015? Not so much.
On January 5th my grandparents and Price, my brother, were in a serious car accident. Mom and I were visiting friends in another state and had to drive home almost immediately to help. Their injuries are not life threatening but they all got banged up quite a bit. Price was hurt the least with just a mild concussion and a deep bruise on one leg along with muscle aches and such from the impact. Papa is still in a lot of pain from where the airbag hit him in the chest and he has trouble getting around because of the pain. My Mimi was just released from the hospital and had to be transported to a rehab facility. She has multiple injuries including a fractured hand.
Like I said, it’s been a rough year. At the same time I am very thankful. If you saw their car you would be amazed that they survived. I thank God that no one was killed in the accident. It could have been so much worse. Even when things seem bad there is always something to be thankful for!
It has also opened my eyes to a lot when it comes to dealing with the healthcare system and insurance companies as I have watched my mom taking care of all of these things. It isn’t easy and having good insurance coverage like my grandparents have is a huge help. I don’t understand a lot about the different types of insurance (other than they are really expensive) but I want to look more into this subject and will report back in about what I learn.
I’m excited to announce that the look of TeensGotCents will be changing in the next few months. The site is being redesigned and I hope will be easier to find the info you want and look a lot better too! I’m proud of what we have been able to do on our own but looking forward to having a site that looks the way I want will be really nice.
One last announcement before I head out to visit Mimi at rehab. I have been having some serious health problems for the last two years that have steadily been getting worse. I have been working with an amazing doc and we have been getting to the bottom of a number of my issues. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and Celiac’s Disease seem to be the source of most of my concerns. Celiac’s means that I cannot ever again eat any gluten. (Sob.) Hypoglycemia means I have to eat small meals more often to keep my blood sugar stable. I am so glad to FINALLY know what is wrong and that these things are completely treatable. It has had a big impact on us financially and we will be sharing more about that in the coming weeks.
Here’s hoping that 2016 gets better! Thanks so much for joining me here and being part of the TGC’s community. I am grateful for each one of you!
