Funny story. I was going to cover the Fitbit Force in this review. However, breaking news has it that the band is being recalled and Fitbit has completely pulled the plug on that product. Not sure what the replacement will look like but as of now you can only buy the Flex.
This left me with a decision. Do I cover the newest one to the group, Samsung Gear Fit, or focus on an upstart company called Atlas Wearables? Since I’m not a fan of the Samsung’s closed network when it comes to their fitness bands (and the price to join the ecosystem is astronomical) it wouldn’t be feasible to cover it. If you do own a Samsung device that is compatible I would look into Gear Fit, it’s very impressive.
Who is this upstart company called Atlas Wearables? Interestingly enough I found out about them by surfing YouTube. I’m always interested in what new companies can bring to the table so I chose Atlas Wearables. Their idea for a fitness tracker is intriguing and one that I believe will shake up the market on what a real fitness tracker looks like. Since this product is still in prototype form and won’t release until December I cannot treat this like a review. I guess it’s more of an introduction of what is to come from Atlas.
Introduction:
The Atlas Fitness Tracker may become the only band on the market that can truly claim to be a true fitness tracker. According to the video link on their website Atlas is striving to move away from the markets fascination with glorified pedometers and have instead built a product that is jam packed with sensors. Their fitness band claims to cover the x-y-z axis of movement (ugh algebra language) that can track your gym workout with precision. This band is powerful enough to count your reps and even realize when you are cheating or not completing reps. Atlas also has a screen relaying current workout, reps, heart rate and time elapsed. The included heart rate monitor only increases the importance and valur of this product. Atlas has extreme potential to be the future of fitness trackers.
Performance:
This fitness band promises to deliver the highest amount of performance in gym use compared to anything else. The design of the band is one not based on beauty but on performance. The potential is endless and I can easily see different bands in all shapes and colors soon. Even though it is quite large, the amount of information it can cover while running, swimming, or lifting is one that is just perfect for the person who doesn’t wear these bands for style but to track their daily fitness routine. These bands are designed to deliver you accurate information and explicit feedback detailing and logging your entire workout.
Spec Sheet:
Sorry folks! I’ve done a lot of research on this product but since it’s still in production I do not have any information for you geeks out there. I can only direct you to visit their website and discover for yourself info about the product designers and their mission. As of now there are no specs out there for us.
Conclusion:
The Atlas Fitness Band is a unique product that offers customers the ultimate workout companion on the market and can deliver for the average man as well as the atlete. Pricing will be around $200 on release but you can choose put your trust in the product now and preorder it for only $179. This company is quite new to the market but they show a lot of promise and have an academically decorated team behind their product. I would say it’s safe to assume that this product will become another pioneer in a growing technology. I hope to one day get the chance to review this product and find out its true potential.
