Celebrating My First TV Appearance With a Giveaway!

by Eva 23 Comments

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day for TeensGotCents! Appearing on the Channel 4 Morning Show is not something that happens around here very often. There are a few things you should know:

I thought I was gonna throw up…

I was deeply concerned about sweat stains showing because I was so nervous…

I actually thought about the fact that if I did have sweat stains that no one would notice them at all if I threw up while on the air…which is really not a lot of consolation…

TeensGotCents

Kumasi Aaron of WJXT4 was wonderful and really put me at ease.

Everyone was absolutely amazing at the studio. It turned out to be a lot of fun and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity.  I was able to talk about how to be more purposeful with your money by using the envelope system to budget everything. The envelope system has worked great for me over the years and is really well suited to most teenagers.

Here’s the direct link to see my segment – Becoming Financially Fit is a series that The Morning Show is running during the month of January to help people stick with their New Year’s Resolutions.

I have blogged about the envelope system a few times:

The Envelope System for Teens

An Update – My Envelope System

My mom has written about a digital envelope system that is web based. It’s great for people who have smart phones because you can track your purchases while you are right there in the store! GoodBudget has a free version that includes ten virtual envelopes and there is also a paid plan that costs $5 a month. The free version would work for most teens and is a great way to keep track of your expenses if you prefer to use a debit card rather than cash. Back when mom wrote about this program they were know as EEBA – but they recently changed their name to GoodBudget:

A Digital Envelope System

I hope that you are inspired to get your spending under control so you can reach your financial goals for 2014. In celebration of my first television appearance I have a fun little give-away courtesy of Noreen Young Cosmetics and Makeup Studio! Noreen has provided me with a copy of her popular CD that includes her top ten list on looking and feeling gorgeous inside and out. She has also included the cutest little tool kit that’s a must have for the do it yourself girl! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below and tell us your favorite lip color.

Noreen Young Makeup Studio

Have you ever seen such a cute tool kit?

Good luck! The winner will be announced January 22nd!

And the winner is Genesis!  Thanks so much to all of you who entered!

Congrats, Eva! I probably would’ve thought the same things about sweat stains and throwing up – good for you for doing it anyway! You’re going to be a public speaking pro before you even leave for college.

I watched the broadcast before you posted this contest, Eva. You were well composed, and I didn’t see any sweat! Great job!
My favorite color of lipstick is a natural peach or pink, definitely not something that says, “Here are my lips!”

    Wow Eva,
That was really great. You had no need to be worried because it was amazing! I gave my “money” speech today to a group of my friends and I was really nervous! I totally understand. It was really neat that you talked about the envelope system. I love it, and I have found it to be very effective. I talk about it in my speech. Thank you!

My favorite lip color? I don’t hardly ever wear lip stick, but I think my favorite color would be very light natural pink.

A College Story: The Coen Family

Ben Lamb is a teenpreneur you should know! After noticing that his neighbor’s mailbox posts kept getting banged up and damaged from weedwackers and cars, he wanted to find a solution. With a little help, Ben and his dad created the Mailbox Post Shield! It was such a hit that he started a business installing Post Shields around his neighborhood. Ben shares his story, including how he makes profits and advertises, in this awesome teenpreneur interview!

Teen Entrepreneurs – Ben Lamb

A few years ago, I interviewed college student Tim Ciello about how he managed to land a full-ride scholarship to his dream school. Now, he’s back (and graduated) to talk about what life without student loan debt is like and what his scholarships ended up not covering. While he admits that he hasn’t exactly figured out money as an adult yet, he has learned tons of valuable money and life lessons during his time as a student.
