A nice dinner with your significant other is warm and cozy and fun, until you get the bill and you realize “wait, I’m only making minimum wage.” To avoid emptying your wallet for the sake of romance, here are some inexpensive date ideas.
1.
Window shopping is fun if you have a common interest. Say you both like video games or makeup, have fun testing the games and playing with makeup. It’s a great way to find out what your SO likes and doesn’t like and it doesn’t cost a dime!
2.
During the warmer months going to the park is a good choice, it’s nice and romantic, but it’s also completely free. You can pack a simple lunch if you like which will save a ton of money over going out to eat somewhere.
3.
Find cheap dessert places. We have a Dollar Cone near us, meaning we can get good ice cream for a dollar and sit the back for an hour and play chess. You can go somewhere really fancy and share something or ask your friends for recommendations on the best dessert in town.
4.
If you’re both religious, try going to church together. This helps you get to know your SO better and to try out a new style of church at the same time. It will also give you a lot to talk about when you discuss the sermon.
5.
Go to parties of mutual friends together. Maybe it’s a costume party and you can make costumes together before you go. Or it’s a Christmas party and you can wear matching ugly sweaters. Just be sure to shop at the thrift shop and spend as little as possible or shop your own closet and spend nothing!
6.
If you have some of the same classes, why not study and hang out at Starbucks after school? Coffee is relatively inexpensive compared to other places you could go. Keep in mind that Starbucks offers free refills on some of their drinks.
7.
Make a list of movies you want to watch together and then have a Netflix movie marathon. Right now my list has Inception, Tusk, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on it. (Soooo romantic right?)
8.
Bake together. Making cookies is fun, so why not make them together, especially if your SO likes to cook/bake as well. And try something new. You can teach each other your favorite recipes. This isn’t exactly free but it’s fun and you can choose recipes that aren’t that expensive to make and share the cost.
9.
Volunteer in the community together. This gives you time to give back to the community while getting to know each other. Not only is this free, but it helps others out as well.
Hopefully these ideas will give you some good inspiration for some dates. It’s important to have fun and enjoy yourself, and hopefully know you have ideas on how to do so without cleaning out your piggy bank.
I absolutely agree, shouldn’t have to spend a fortunate on a date with some you are with. If they really like you it would’t matter to them how much money you spend. It’s all about the bonding and quality time.
You are right Harley. It is about quality time, and that just isn’t expensive!
i agree to!!!!!!
It is wonderful how the little things someone may do can make greater things!
🙂
This is a great website and I would recommend it to other teens/adults with spending addictions.
Thank you Ryan. I really appreciate it!
These are great ways to save money and still have an amazing date with your significant other! I will definitely use these sometime!
I agree, you shouldn’t have to spend your hard earned money on someone to have a good time.
Next time I go on a date, I will be sure to use these helpful tips on saving money!
I just went on a date and it left my wallet all sad. I’m from a small town, so we don’t have malls around here. We going on hikes and do out door activities to save money. So far so good! Thanks for your advice!
I completely agree with this. If you really like someone it shouldn’t matter whether you’re on the most expensive date or cheapest date as long as you get to spend some quality time with your significant other.
