Don’t Panic: ThredUP and Transform Your Wardrobe!

by Anna 36 Comments

Closet packed, overflowing, bursting with clothes… and not a thing to wear! Ever wish you could make your unwanted clothes pay for ones you actually like? With online secondhand store “ThredUP” we can do just that in 3 super easy steps.

If you have been looking at your closet with despair, I encourage you to use ThredUP to transform your wardrobe without emptying your wallet.

ThredUP is an online store where you can shop like-new clothes and sell your second hand clothes! This is a great way to find fashionable clothing for less because once you have a little spending money, the shopping is super convenient– it’s a one-stop shop! The huge selection is superior to thrift stores, and they’ll ship the clothes right to you! When you sign up with your email you’ll soon receive coupon codes, making this an even more frugal option.

1.

Create an account, then click the “Clean Out” tab and order a bag! There are three different options. I chose the ‘free’ bag as the most promising for a profit, and it arrived in the mail (adorable, teal polka dots and all!) just a few days later at no cost to me! 🙂

2.

Put unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories into the Clean Out bag. ThredUP only accepts quality brand clothing in fairly good condition, so keep that in mind. Shipping is totally free to you because of the prepaid shipping label ThredUP provides! After they sort through the contents, you will receive your proceeds either as ThredUP store credit or cash through PayPal.

3.

Now shop! Browse through dozens of categories easily filtered for brand, size, style, color, and price preferences. Keep your eye out for clothes labeled as “new with tags”. Then fill up your cart and get trendy clothes shipped straight to your door for a flat shipping rate of $5.99! Or ‘heart’ an item to save it in your favorites list for later!

I could spend all day shopping with the ThredUP website, it is sooo nice to use and GAAHH!!! So many cute CLOTHES! As a petite girl I usually loathe clothing shopping, but on ThredUP I can simply specify my size.

If you have been looking at your closet with despair, I encourage you to use ThredUP to transform your wardrobe without emptying your wallet.

I put together an outfit for each season just to prove how wonderful ThredUP’s selections are! Oh, and I ran across nice brands at really great prices!

(Note: these ThredUP outfit prices were calculated using the 40% off coupon code given to first time customers.) Photo credit: thredup.com

The total estimated retail price for this outfit is approximately $158. Ouch. I would rather spend $24. 🙂 Oh, and the boots! Love, love! I have a weakness for boots, methinks. 😀 ThredUP estimates the boot’s retail price at $36, but here they are for $7.79 with just minor wear!

Who else likes a comfy, ‘vanilla’ outfit with a cute accent? At a retail store this adorable beanie would be $24, while ThredUP is reselling it, gently used, for $5.99. This whole winter outfit would usually cost $54 new but instead you pay only $14.40! Too cool.

Spring is the season for sandals and florals! The retail value of this GAP jean skirt is $50- YIKES! And the shirt (which ThredUP has “new with tags”!) would be $49 in a store… I think ThredUP is a girl’s best friend!

Living in Arizona, I begin to panic when the temps get around 105 degrees. What I would give for a cool, flowy shirt like this! And it is “new with tags”. 😉 Ever seen Converse worth $60 sold for only $13.19? Now you have, you’re welcome! <3 Uh, wow, these jeans originally cost $71… My frugal mind can’t take that! Thank you, ThredUP, for offering them for just $9.59! You will save a cool $136.20 if you buy this summer outfit from ThredUP rather than a regular retail store!

If you have been looking at your closet with despair, I encourage you to use ThredUP to transform your wardrobe without emptying your wallet.

I think that this website would be great for people with not to much money and yet want to look good and not look like a thrift store. When I get older I would want to use this site and get those good looking clothes yet spend what I could at a Walmart for not as nice clothes.

Hi Anna! My name is Calista and I am an avid thrift shopper. I really enjoyed this blog post about ThredUp, especially because it’s an online thrift store! I actually just stumbled across it when I was scrolling though pintrest, but didn’t think too much about it. Now that you’ve put together examples of you totally inexpensive findings on this blog, highlighted what ThredUp is about, and even gave a way to make money off of it (not just save $!)

I so understand! I haven’t grown for years (usually why I get new clothes), and have gotten tired of and worn out my clothes multiple times.

Like Eva said, it is waay revolutionary to reimagine outfits with what clothes you already have. But do enjoy getting some new things– it is refreshing. 😉 And you’re right, ThredUP is good for that because it is so inexpensive and you can basically trade out your old clothes for new ones!

This is such a great idea for teens on a budget! The only way I have really gotten rid of my clothes is by giving them to a thrift store. I love how you can get things for cheap on this website and how trendy they are! This will help me get my closet cleaned out and help me fill it again with more clothes. Thank you so much for the incredible blog post!

    Hi Anna,
I think that this website is an amazing idea! It seems to be so beneficial is many different ways, I have grown out of old clothes or also just seem to have lost interest in most, they have either just been left sitting in my dresser, or hung in the back of my closet! I think that this is a great way to make a profit and get rid of those clothes but also have the opportunity to find new ones!

Yaas, ThredUP is amazing! You should totally dig out those forgotten clothes and make a little cash off them!
I just did that with my closet… 😬:P lol In the end though (aka after an explosion of clothes all around my room) my wardrobe was SO much more organized and narrowed down to just the things I like to wear! You can do it!! 🙌

lol I getcha there, you wouldn’t believe how long it took me to decide on the outfits I shared in this post! But it is fun too… sometimes ‘window-shopping’ online is a lot safer for our wallets than ‘window shopping’ at a store where we can buy so much more impulsively, if you get what I mean. 😀
