Five Ways to Ruin Your Blog…

by Eva 7 Comments

It’s so much fun to have your own website where you can write out your thoughts or reach a ton of readers. But there are some major do’s and don’t’s of blogging and blogging with pictures that I am learning so fast. These minor mistakes can even get you in big trouble with the law! Here’s how I solved my beginner blogging mistakes and stopped ruining my blog in under a day.

There is no way to get around the fact that if you are blogging, you are gonna want to use pictures on your site.  Of course, most teenagers are practically professional photographers already, so this isn’t a problem for most.  Except for me.  Because I am an EXPERT at taking fuzzy pictures with my iPod, but that doesn’t really work here because I want things to actually look good.  Fortunately, my mom’s best friend is a professional photographer  over at donna ham Photography and she helped me come up with a list of things to avoid when using photography/images on your site:

5)  Use pictures that are out of focus or have terrible lighting…

But you already know this!

4)  Plagiarize

People just love it when you lift their pictures off of google images and don’t ask their permission or give them credit…

3)  Don’t take the time to understand how your blog works when it comes to the placement and sizing of pictures.

Your readers may not appreciate that thumb nail size picture of your latest endeavor…

2)  Don’t use pictures at all…

Because yards of text is very interesting…

1)  Anything resembling a duck face

I will refrain from saying anything more on the matter…

It has been such a blessing to me to work with a photographer like donna ham.  She did an entire photo shoot with me for my sixteenth birthday and you can see those here if you like.  These pictures were taken at Gibbs Gardens.  It was so much fun to have my picture taken!

When you choose pictures for your ‘about me’ page or the one to use in a press release, it is so important to use a picture that is well done.

Yes, this is a random cat that I found. What of it?

If you think about your favorite blogs and websites you will realize that it probably has something to do with the images that they use.  Appropriate, well placed pictures that add to the post really do make a difference to your readers.

If you’re blogging and including images in your post, you have to be watermarking your images. Not only does it market your brand and let people know where to find more, but it also protects your image from being stolen on other sites. I agree. Pics speak a thousand words but make sure you use good ones. And yes, make sure your content is original. No one respects a stealer.
