For many, eyeglasses are a necessity, but they can be so expensive!!! I started having headaches and eyestrain problems, and my mom determined I probably needed glasses. After doing everything the expensive way we found some amazing glasses deals that left us dumbfounded. Definitely one of those smack-your-head-against-the-wall moments, but I can’t wait to share these frugal options for eye wear with y’all!
One crazy smart way to get your frames was recommended to me by a mom of nine on a super tight budget. Quite a few of her kids needed glasses, and she used an online store called ZenniOptical!
Zenni offers affordable eyewear starting at the frankly shocking price of $6.95! You can do a detailed search for your kind of style, and they provide ‘How To’ videos to help you along the path to getting centsible glasses!

Eye Exam Prices
First things first though, right? You need an eye exam and prescription before you can order glasses! A quick Google search told me rather definitively that Walmart Vision Centers are the most inexpensive way to go. Walmart vision centers will give you an eye exam for $60!
Since I’ve never used Walmart for this type of thing, and they aren’t exactly known for quality I had to look into this further before I could recommend their services.
“Will a Walmart doctor provide the same quality exam as your local, family Optometrist?
The eye doctors at WalMart have the same degree as any other eye doctor. They are just renting a space within or next door to a WalMart, versus renting their own stand alone facility. Every doctor that WalMart hires or contracts with are licensed and fully certified optometrists. The question about quality has nothing to do with where they work, as much as it does with experience. I would look for an optometrist that has been out of school for a long period of time and has seen lots of patients…”
Thanks to my best friend, Google, I found you can often just walk right into a WalMart and get a fairly quick exam for $60… compared to the usual $80-$100 independent optometrists would charge! Find your closest WalMart Vision Center on their website!
Another Place for Glasses Deals
Another great place to get frames is EyeBuyDirect. They offer hundreds of different styles of frames starting at $6!
This probably sounds like a total scam, but I’ve had many different friends use this awesome website and let me tell you, they look adorable in their EyeBuyDirect glasses!
My sweet friend in her adorable glasses! She got her lenses, frames– everything for only $9.00 from EyeBuyDirect!
Their website looks super easy to use; they even have Video Guides that will walk you all the way through the choosing and ordering process!
If I ever break my new reading glasses I definitely want to try these spiffy ways of getting glasses for less!
