Money has this awful habit of disappearing without notice! Where does it go? We clip coupons for makeup and bargain shop for clothing, but we often forget to be frugal in one area–haircuts. I don’t think we realize how much it costs over time. The Huffington Post says that “the typical woman client will spend between $800 and $900 a year on cuts, styles, and the occasional dye job…”
Even the most inexpensive haircuts cost $15 which for me is still too much. These three simple steps tell how to get a haircut the smart way and keep that money from disappearing!
Haircuts the Smart Way
1. Choose a style that needs less maintenance
I wanted side-swept bangs so I went long. This way I can go longer between trims than if I got a more defined cut.
2. Get an inexpensive cut
3. Learn to maintain it at home!
This kind of thing is SO easy to learn from YouTube! Especially if you have bangs or something that you can trim yourself!
A quick search on a fave, parent-approved hair channel produced some easy-to-follow videos on how to maintain bangs myself, make bangs not stick to my forehead, shape my bangs, and even a quick hairstyle tutorial for fellow bang-ers!
I also found some very cost-friendly haircut kits on Amazon to help maintain your cut at home between visits!
My Money-Saving Haircut
After watching the video tutorials for maintaining long bangs, Mom and I drove to the closest Great Clips, armed with a coupon and ready to do this the smart way.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had a great experience! Every time the door opened multiple stylists would call out a cheery hello, the music was at a nice background volume, and the stylists were so laid back and sweet through it all! Customer after customer walked through the door and were taken right back to a chair because they had signed in ahead with this nifty app. The waiting list, conveniently displayed on a screen on the front desk, moved quickly through clients. The stylists were very efficient!
I am super happy with how my hair turned out; the cutter just looked at the picture of the easily-maintained haircut I wanted and made it look exactly the same! I will definitely be using Great Clips again!
