Sometimes, a job just isn’t a good fit for you, no matter how hard you work at it. I had previously worked at Firehouse Subs, but I was not comfortable in that job due to its location and management style. I quit that job after trying to tough it out, and began to look for a new job.
It was scary being without a job because I have to help make car payments and pay for gas, but I continued to look for a job and save my money until I saw a now hiring sign near the new Viva Chicken. For those who aren’t familiar, Viva Chicken is a Peruvian style casual dining restaurant that was founded in the Carolina’s, and it is rapidly expanding.
I put in an application online and was called in for an interview the next day. The interview was fairly simple. I was asked about why I wanted to work there and what my expectations were. I explained how excited I was to start fresh and work closer to home while still getting to interact with customers.
We also discussed pay, and I aimed higher than I was previously making. I recommend going up a little but because the worst they can say is no. I was aiming for $8.00 an hour. So I was pleasantly surprised when I was told all employees begin at $10.00 an hour.I got the job and was prepared for training.
About a month later, training began, and I knew this would be a place I enjoyed working at. The staff was friendly and willing to help us learn the menu and the computer system as well as giving us hands-on training. I liked this organized style of training much more that the learning as you go method that was used at my previous job, it just fit me better.
Not only that, but there are great benefits from working at Viva. We receive 50% meals! And they have a 90 day management training program for those interested.
I also felt safer at Viva Chicken because it has a larger staff, and we all leave at the same time after dark. We are in a well-lit area and always have a manager present. These things made me feel comfortable at this new job because I had witnessed a robbery at my old job.
Things to consider before looking for a job
And do not feel rushed to find a new job right away. A job is not worth sacrificing your mental health during what should be a fun and exciting time. There are plenty of ways to save money without having to stress about a job.
I think it is important to consider the atmosphere of the place you work at. I enjoy going to work because the employees are nice, the food is great, and the customers love it. If you aren’t happy with your current job, look for places like these and consider applying. You may not find a new job right away, but sometimes it is worth looking for one.
