Shopping with Sarah – Cute Clothes From Your Own Closet!

by Sarah Fechtel 3 Comments

Sarah is usually all about shopping bags and trips to consignment shops. But today, she takes us to an entirely different place to land big fashion finds -- your own closet! It’s true! Your clothes have a ton of potential, even if it’s been years since you’ve worn them. She shows us how to repurpose old jeans into a cute skirt and use sites like Pinterest to create new outfit combinations. You’ll love making a shopping game out of it.

I was looking for my favorite pair of jeans the other day, and if you happen to be a girl, perhaps you can commiserate with me about the panic a girl goes through when she can’t locate her favorite pair of pants. I gave up (devastated) after I realized that I had left them at a friend’s house. However, I suppose this is much better than losing them in the laundry’s Black Hole of Disappearance. While I was looking, I had to pass by all of my least-favorite jeans (which also happen to be every pair of jeans that aren’t my one pair…the favorite pair…) that are cluttering up my pants section.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume that many of you out there are like me; you have tons of clothes in your closet that you don’t necessarily want to get rid of, but you can’t stand to wear—at least very often. What do you do with these boring clothes? Hm. May I venture to give you some answers? (Warning! these suggestions involve some sewing!)

I’m a weird teen: I am simply not a big fan of shopping, especially at larger places like malls and department stores. But my friend Sarah, a shopping expert, knows all the tips and tricks of shopping mindfully at places like Goodwill where you can get jeans, dresses, shoes, and tops for so much less than what you would pay at a regular store. Today, she’s taking me out for Goodwill shopping training to teach me how to get what I want and love at half the price.Goodwill Training – Shopping with Sarah AND EvaFor teens on the go, a smartphone is usually the top must-have item on their wishlist. But gifting a teen a smartphone means spending a ton of money without much guarantee that the phone is worth its price. We look at the latest smartphones announced this year -- the Nokia Lumia 830, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Samsung Note 4. You may be surprised at which one ranks number one!5 Best Smartphones! Some of my favorite memories is going to garage sales with my family and friends. We’d get up every Saturday morning, grab breakfast, and head out in our tiny car looking to score some deals in our own neighborhoods. From all those weekends in driveways and garages, I’ve learned just how to make the most out of garage sale shopping. Here are my best tips and tricks, including how to evaluate a garage sale from a moving car.Shopping With Sarah – Garage Sale Tips

Hi guys, I’m Eva!

Welcome to TeensGotCents, my name is Eva Baker and I founded this site when I was sixteen. I'm a complete money nerd and I love helping teens learn how money works. Also, I watch too much Netflix. Although I still have a lot to learn about personal finance I hope you will use my successes and failures to help reach your own goals whether you want to go to college debt free, get a part time job, work on a fun DIY project that will save you money or just read about ways you can learn to manage your money well as a teen.
