I’m going to St. Louis today. Mom and I are headed out to FINCON ’13 (the annual finance blogging conference) this afternoon and I am so excited!
And I found out last night that TeensGotCents is in the running for the People’s Choice Award. Thank you so much for going and voting for the site! That makes me so happy and grateful to you all – whether or not I win! If you have time and can go vote for me please do! Just click right HERE and it will take you directly to the voting form! Voting closes at midnight tonight!
Over the next five days I will have the opportunity to meet other personal finance bloggers, many of whom have helped me in a variety of ways, and this is probably what I am most excited about. There’s just something about meeting someone face to face versus getting to know them over email. I am also really looking forward to attending The Plutus Awards and cheering on my favorite bloggers. I’m hoping that some of my friends will win in the categories they placed in as finalists. I did not make it as a finalist in the category for new bloggers, but I still get to dress up and have a fabulous evening!
The conference itself has classes and seminars taught by experienced and successful bloggers. I am still so new at all of this that I have a ton to learn about blogging in general. On Friday night of the conference they are holding an IGNITE event and I have been chosen to be one of the speakers! I am speaking on the perils of being a teenager in today’s culture. I am feeling a little nervous about the whole thing and have been practicing like crazy. If the video turns out well I will upload it here when we get back in town. You can read more about Ignite in an article I wrote last week, just click HERE. Of course, if I do terrible and mess up and it’s awful – you will never see it here and we will all pretend that it never happened!
Once the conference is over we will have an extra day to do some sight seeing. I have been looking over all of the things available and have planned out some fun (and mostly free) things to do and see while we are there. We are going to see the Arch (of course) and go on a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi river. We will also get to visit Forest Park. The Park was modeled after New York’s Central Park and is actually quite a big bigger. Forest Park contains the St. Louis Zoo and St. Louis Art Museum. Both the zoo and the museum are free! We are going to finish up our time in St. Louis by taking a tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. To be honest I really just want to see the Clydesdales although I’m sure that the tour will be very interesting. The tour includes a visit to the stables. Again, it’s free!
GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN ALERT: Of course, we may not get to go into the Arch because of the stupid government shutdown. Ugh. I don’t even really want to understand what’s going on in politics but I do know that it stinks. I’ll let you all know how it goes…
Either way we are going to have an amazing time! So grateful to have this opportunity!
