I have an important proclamation to make. It’s summer! If you are like me that means it’s time to change the “norm” of the school year and do some fun “extra” stuff. For example, about two weeks ago I was asked if I wanted to go to Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. Of course I wanted to. The only issue was funding….
I like to live and have fun, I love to make money, I love to save money, and here comes the problem, I love to spend money.
Because of my spending habits I have to be extra cautious with what I do over my summer. Here some ideas on what you can do to indulge in summer fun and still be financially cautious. We’ll do a list so that you can easily see what summer fun ideas are right for you.
Some Ideas for Summer Fun
Some pointers in “decoding” my list. “Fun level” is how much fun that activity is. “Cost” is the expense. Got it? Great. Have fun and enjoy your summer.
Summer picnic – Fun level? Summer picnics are as awesome as you want them to be. Cost? Pretty minimal. It’s really just the price of whatever food you decide to get. This is a pretty great way to enjoy a summer full of fun.
Beach day – Fun level? More fun the more friends you bring. Cost? Well, the beach is pretty hot. Drinks are recommended. However, to save money pack a cooler before you leave with snacks and drinks. I personally enjoy beach days with friends a lot.
Sports day – Fun level? Depends on how much you like sports. Cost? Again pretty minimal. Pack a drink cooler before you go. This is one of my favorites, I love Frisbee and soccer so this is an awesome one.
Go into town for a day – Fun level? Completely up to you. Cost? I recommend setting yourself a budget before you go. Eva has some great ideas on just how you can do that.
Go to a theme park – Fun level? Really awesome. Cost? Well, upwards of $100. This one is kinda pricey, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. Just be wise and save appropriately beforehand. (One great way to do that is to write for someone awesome like Eva Baker.)
Another way you can save money and have fun at a theme park is to go as a group. Most parks have a group rate that’s nearly half if you have a group of 15 or more.
Pool Party – Fun level? As awesome as the people you are with. Cost? Minimal to nonexistent. Whenever we do pool parties we always bring a Frisbee and a Squishy water ball. These two toys provide hours of fun.
One Final Tip
There are dozens of other things that you could do for summer fun – some are cost effective and others, not so much… however here is a good baseline to start with. I encourage you to enjoy your summer and look for ways to do so in an economical way. The final tip I’ll leave you with is this, make sure you save and make more then you try to make. If you can do that, you are set to enjoy a fun and financially smart summer.
